Project: 1.0 Armature in the Round. In-Process Review Jan. 19th. Due Jan. 26th.

Creative Problem

Using only additive process, create a sculpture that appears to defy gravity. The following constraints have been placed on the project.:
  • Nothing can hang from the ceiling.
  • The sculpture must be grounded to the floor. Not a wall piece.
  • The sculpture should be approached "in the round".
  • I (6ft tall) must be able to walk under or through the sculpture.

Size and Materials

There is no restriction on size, or materials.

Concepts to consider

Mass, Volume, Physical/Implied Space, Physical/Implied Weight

Notes

For this exercise, the additive process refers to:
  • Modeling (of a homogenous material)
  • Fabrication (of a homogenous material. ex. wood joinery, metal brazing, sheet metal, 3-D printing, etc)
  • Assemblage (of dissimilar materials)
  • Growth (biological processes that produce mass through growth, etc. Nothing dangerous)
Please refrain from the casting process at this time. No subtractive processes.

Schedule

January 19th- In-process review. Project should be 75% complete. We will trouble-shoot and map out how to resolve the work.

January 26th- Final Critique. Work may be presented in the Rm 5102,
Wood Shop, hallway, Production Room, or Loading Docks.
